International Piano Competition of Friuli Venezia Giulia

Who we are

The cultural association Piano FVG has steadily collected since 2013 the experience of the Istituto di Musica della Pedemontana di Aviano, promoter of a piano competition established in 1997 in memory of the musician from Trieste Luciano Gante (1915 – 1993), refined virtuoso and tireless teacher, teacher of generations of established pianists.

In its history, the Piano Competition has paved the way for many brilliant careers for talented pianists from the best musical academies of all continents, within the limit of 32 years of age.

The city of music and the Piano

Since 2011, the event has redesigned its physiognomy towards new objectives, with significant openings towards institutional and cultural partnerships at a European level.

This moment coincided with a reorganization also at a management level, changing the location of the Competition from Pordenone to Sacile, elected “City of Music and Piano”.

Vision

The structure of the Competition itself has therefore settled on a biennial cadence, according to the pace of the major international music competitions, a cycle which, from the alternation between Competition and Festival reserved for the winners, was further updated after the Covid – 19 Pandemic, leaving the preliminary auditions in the first year, and then, after the selection of the finalists, the solo and orchestra rehearsals in the following year.

Events, concerts and musical projects constantly accompany the activity of the FVG Piano Competition, thanks to increasingly ambitious collaborations.

Our history

The Luciano Gante Piano Competition

The Piano FVG Association was founded in 2012 following the revision of the former L. Gante Piano Competition into the new format of the International Piano Competition of FVG, which since 2011 has found its permanent home in Sacile “City of Music and Piano”, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024.

Collaborations

Over these years, Piano FVG has gathered around itself a numerous network of partners and collaborations, which include not only many Municipalities and several of the most accredited musical institutions in FVG, but also Italian and international cultural institutions, with which it maintains relationships with artistic exchanges, production and circulation of events.

Since 2016, this network has progressively given life to other projects, starting from the Friuli Venezia Giulia area, and broadening their gaze to other Italian regions or Europe.

Some of them are conceived and promoted directly by the Association, while for others Piano FVG has activated profitable synergies in the area, always maintaining the role of artistic direction.

Parallel activities

“Notes on music and arts” (1519/2019), a project of “contamination” of music with science, sound creation/reproduction technologies, visual expressions, on the occasion of the Anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci.

“Goldberg Serpentine Love”, a musical short film that translates the theme of the Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach, performed by the Polish pianist Tymoteusz J. Bies (winner of the 2018 Competition) into a short story of love, dance and suggestion inspired by the dawn of the Lumière Cinema, in the wonderful setting of the City of Sacile “Giardino della Serenissima” (short film presented in Venice during the 2021 Film Festival and winner of the City of Offida-Piceno Film Festival Award 2022).
